A boil is medically referred to as a FURUNCLE.
It is caused by the bacteria, Staphylococcus Aureus.
The affected area swells due to an accumulation of dead tissue and pus. That is what causes the pain.
Sometimes you will find a cluster of boils together. That is called a CARBUNCLE.
When the boil is ready to discharge pus, you will find a white or yellow spot in the middle.
With time, the boil may burst and drain on its own. However, these can be helpful:
1. Apply some pressure using a cloth soaked in warm salty water.
2. Clean and dry the area
3. Apply antibiotic cream on the area.
4. Bandage the area
Sometimes, fever and chills may accompany boils. You may also have palpable lymph nodes. These are signs of systemic infection of the bacteria.
You have high chances of getting a boil if you:
1. Are diabetic
2. Have a low immunity
3. Don't practise proper hygiene
4. Are malnourished
5.Are exposed to irritating chemicals.
